It’s time for another Sunday Art Club for the Crossing the Tees Festival. The club invites you to join in with activities that take 5, 20 or 60 minutes to complete. Perfect for when you have a little or a lot of time to get creative.
This week we are thinking about the genres of the books we read and the ones we don’t. We all have our favourites, but sometimes it can be good to stretch our literary horizons and try something that we might normally not pick up.
Gather your Materials
- Paper
- Pencils/coloured pencils/pens or paint
Excellent. Let’s do this!
⏰ 5 minutes: Associations
Choose a genre and sketch/write out any quick associations you have with it. Repeat for another genre until you run out of time. They could be a genre you already read, a genre you’d like to try or a mix of both.
⏰ 20 minutes: Sketching heads
Sketch heads for multiple genres. Think about features and expressions that you could add to represent the genre. Choose colours, symbols and clothing that add meaning.
⏰ 60 minutes: Genre Character Collection
Create a full collection of genre heads based on your sketches. Consider how you want to arrange them on the page and choose whether you want to add labels or other typography. You can use your collection as a challenge; can you read a book from every genre that you drew?
Thank you for joining me for art club. If you would like to continue to get regular post from the Sunday Art Club you can find out more at https://www.katlynas.com/sunday-art-club
