Quotes: The Sunday Art Club

It’s time for another Sunday Art Club for the Crossing the Tees Festival. The club invites you to join in with activities that take 5, 20 or 60 minutes to complete. Perfect for when you have a little or a lot of time to get creative.

This week we are looking at quotes. Quotes can be a great thing to collect and an interesting way of identifying what holds meaning for us. I went with Animal Farm, a book I first read when I was a child, but one that works on many more levels when viewed though older eyes.

Gather your Materials

Excellent. Let’s do this!

5 minutes: Pick a Quote

Pick a quote from a book. It could be a familiar one, or something you choose at random. Sketch out a couple of little thumbnail drawings, thinking about any imagery, emotions or symbols that come to mind.

20 minutes: Pick a Sketch

Pick your favourite sketch and build on it, drawing it out a little bigger. Which colours help to get your message across? You could create a scene that represents the quote or choose to create something more abstract, that captures feeling and tone.

60 minutes: Genre Character Collection

Combine artwork with typography to create an artwork that illustrates your quote. If you want to take it further you could design your version of a cover for the book.

Thank you for joining me for art club. If you would like to continue to get regular post from the Sunday Art Club you can find out more at https://www.katlynas.com/sunday-art-club
