I am a Librarian: The Sunday Art Club

Kat Lynas, Reader-in-Residence for Redcar & Cleveland Libraries introduces The Sunday Art Club!

For the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing some creative prompts from The Sunday Art Club. The club invites you to join in with activities that take 5, 20 or 60 minutes to complete. Perfect for when you have a little or a lot of time to get creative.

This week we are celebrating librarians. As well are being found in our local libraries, they can be found in many books and films. Two of my favourites are The (Orangutang) Librarian in Terry Prachett’s Discworld series and Evelyn O’Connell from The Mummy.

Gather your Materials

Excellent. Let’s do this!

5 minutes: Accessories

Sketch some tools of the trade that you think a librarian should never be without. E.g. An ID badge, a handful of bookmarks or their trusty book cart.

20 minutes: Design your librarian

Are they human?
What time period are they from?
Do they have any supernatural or magical elements?
What type of books are their speciality?

Create some sketches of librarians.

60 minutes: A librarian at work

Create an image of your librarian at work.
