If your ‘life lately’ status looks like overwhelm, tiredness and just a bit out of sorts, join Reader-in-Residence Claire Jennings for an evening in the library that promises calm, rest and relaxation. Keep reading to find out more about what you can enjoy at her women’s health and wellbeing event: Between the Shelves.
The inspiration for this event came from one simple concept: the need for connection, both with others and our self.
What originally started out as an idea for midlife women to meet others has evolved into an evening for all women to unwind; one that promises rest, relaxation, and an opportunity to reset.
Fancy some alone time? No problem. There’ll be quiet spaces for you to browse, curl up with a good book, or pop some headphones on and enjoy some audiobook tasters.
If you crave connection with others, there’ll be an opportunity for you to chat, mingle, meet new people and make new friends.
There will also be a lovely relaxation route that will take you through breathwork with Dorothy Nelson and Temple Spa treats with Beth Burden.
Dorothy will use guided breathing techniques that will help to regulate your mind and body and promote a sense of calm and balance. You will learn techniques and practical tools that can be applied to your everyday life to slow down, reset and build confidence.

Beth will be encouraging everyone to relax, de-stress and take practical steps to look after your body and your mind. Her simple techniques will support your wellbeing, create a calm and welcome space, and introduce you to the delights of Temple Spa products that focus on relaxation and self-care.
And it goes without saying that of course there will be books! We’ll have a Reading Well collection that focuses on health and wellbeing, and e-books and audiobooks that can be downloaded via Libby, the free library app.
You can also enjoy a selection of books from our shelves centred around relaxation, mindfulness, wellbeing, health, fitness, food and more. You can browse at your leisure on the evening and the collection will also be available for loan if you would like to take anything home to continue what you might have started.

If you like the sound of all of this, there’s even better news – the event is entirely FREE!
